Lara Schaeffer received her master’s in education from Harvard University and from there enjoyed a 28-year career teaching, mentoring, and counseling at the high school level. After her daughter received a late diagnosis of autism at fifteen years old, Lara sought evaluation, too, and her autism was formally diagnosed when she was in her forties. Struck by how something so important could have gone unidentified for so long, despite her repeatedly seeking help for various challenges throughout her life, Lara began her autism advocacy work. In 2022, Lara founded her autism consultancy, Autism Discovery, where she mentors late-identified autistics to help them live happy, fulfilled lives and guides unidentified adults through informed self-evaluation for autism which can lead them to self-diagnosis.
