She reached a point in my career where things started to slow down. Not only had she plateaued, but there was also a glass ceiling above me, and it seemed unbreakable. Tami was frustrated and unsure of what to do or where to go next.
So, she began reaching out to her business partners to let them know she was ready for a change. Tami wanted to explore a new field and tackle some new challenges. That’s when a call came from one of her partners: “I have an open position, and you’re the one I want to fill it.”
Transitioning from a Director in Accounting to a Vice President in Technology was both exciting and challenging. It gave me new ways to tap into my leadership skills and find success. My life was no longer centered around my career but also around being there for my girls and giving them a loving and supporting home. I also realized that: I still wanted to travel, but on my own terms.
I wanted more out of my career than going beyond my corporate position.
I wanted to help more people and give more back than I ever had before.
I wanted to share what I’d learned, both the victories and mistakes with others.
I wanted to help professionals develop leadership skills so they can use their strengths, passion, and purpose to realize true success. But how was I going to make all that happen, with so much already on my plate? To figure that out, I first had to ask myself an important question: What makes me truly happy?
Mentoring was the answer for me. Supporting and guiding others was central to my professional calling. Mentoring was always integral to my career, and offering others guidance is part of what made me a strong leader in the corporate sphere. Knowing the work that truly made me happy was an exhilarating discovery.
